I have a huge announcement for you guys that I'm sure you’ll be excited to hear. This Saturday, September 22nd, Mark Kern will be joining myself, Esfand, and Staysafe on the Classicast. For those who aren’t sure who Mark Kern is, he was the Team Lead for Vanilla WoW during its development. To put that position into context, Kern was the 2nd person credited on the original World of Warcraft game behind only the CEO of Blizzard, Mike Morhaime.
After the beloved fan server Nostalrius was shut down in 2016, a famous petition was drawn and distributed by the Nostalrius staff that called for the creation of official Legacy servers. Under no obligation but his own passion, Kern signed the petition himself and left on it a powerful comment addressing Mike Morhaime, the CEO of Blizzard. He also promised that if the petition reached 200,000 signatures, he would personally print-out and deliver the petition to Blizzard himself. Needless to say, the petition shattered expectations, and Mark Kern fulfilled his promise to hand-deliver each of the 250+ thousand signatures to Blizzard. Additionally, Kern met with Mike Morhaime and other top Blizzard staff to advocate for official legacy realm. The rest, as they say, is history.
We are very pleased to announce that this Saturday, at 4:30 P.M. Pacific Time, Mark Kern will be joining us on the Classicast to discuss Vanilla’s development, Classic WoW, and to answer YOUR questions.
And to take it one step further, John Staats, the first 3D level designer for Vanilla World of Warcraft will also be joining us once again to continue our discussion from last week.
